Take Part Network :: Active Learning for Active Citizenship

Take Part in practice – parents 'speaking up and taking part' in Exeter.  The following is a summary of an instance of 'Take Part' learning with the intention of highlighting several key principles of the Take Part approach.

Jean is passionate about her local community but had been reluctant to attend formal training because as she admits she never liked school, and once she had left she never wanted to go back. Her past experience of learning had not been good and had left her reluctant to access training; it was only after much persuading by her husband Stuart, who features in his own Case Study that she agreed to try them.

Stuart is a local resident who is totally committed to improving his local community; he has over the years become actively involved in a range of local networks, consultations and partnerships, he is currently Chair of the Community Forum. He has a strong belief that local people should be listened to and supported to help them actively participate in the development of local initiatives that aim to meet their needs.
